A few words from our new Treasurer:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Grace Mattel for the years of service she has contributed to the health and well-being of the Hewlett-Woodmere Faculty Association. Many of our members know Grace as a dedicated, though sometimes unorthodox, teacher. The expression ‘I’m gonna chuck you out the window!’ was often heard when passing her classroom. If you know Grace, this was all done with love and humor, and if you speak with her students, they all express their love and admiration of her.
Well this is a retirement send-off of sorts. As you may know, Grace retired as treasurer of HWFA effective January 15th, 2024. As her successor and also, as someone who has worked closely with Grace for over 20 years in the mathematics department of the High School, I believe that she deserves our deepest thanks for the hard work she put in behind the scenes ensuring that our books were balanced, our bills were paid, our payroll was completed and our taxes were submitted. As I have started my journey as treasurer, I can see how much time and effort it takes - and I don’t really even know the half of it yet - to do all of the tasks required. This work goes on behind the scenes without fanfare or glory and I think if you see Grace around, please make it a point to thank her personally for the years of hard work she has put in on behalf of all of us. Grace, you are a class act, and I think I can speak for all of our members when I say that we greatly appreciate all that you have done for our union.
